Reggae for the RIVER ft. The Wailers Reunited!
August 28, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm
On Sunday, August 28th, the Dirty River Jam hosts the ‘Reggae on the River’ benefit concert to support four local organizations committed to ending the damaging discharges from Lake Okeechobee that have plagued the St. Lucie and Indian River Lagoon for decades.
Headlining the concert will be internationally renowned reggae artists, The Wailers ‘Reunited,’ featuring original band members Al Anderson and Aston “Family Man” Barrett, together for the first time since founder, Bob Marley, passed away in 1981. Local favorites, Smoking Section, will open the show bringing their unique mix of roots, rock and funk.
Organized by the creators of the Dirty River Jam, a portion of every ticket sale will benefit the following organizations: Bullsugar.org, Citizens for Clean Water (C4CW), the Rivers Coalition and the Indian Riverkeeper. Funds raised will help further the work being done by these groups to affect a long-term solution to the region’s ongoing environmental crisis. Mark Brechbill, CPA, will underwrite a portion of the costs associated with bringing this event to Stuart. Organizers are making an appeal to the community for additional sponsorships to help offset the remaining costs.
“This water crisis threatens the very fabric of our community,” said Bullsugar.org spokesperson, Jo Neeson. “Nothing unifies people like the music of Bob Marley and his legendary band, The Wailers. We are truly looking for ‘One Love’ and ‘One Solution’, and that is to send the water South to the Everglades as nature intended it. Supporting this colossal show will help put necessary funds into the defense coffers so that we can affect change in the status quo of Tallahassee, while providing folks with what may be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the band that started it all in the world of reggae music. Equally, if not more important than the money raised, is the importance of raising public awareness with an emphasis on encouraging voters to cast their ballot for those who are committed to changing the politics that have resulted in the current environmental disaster.”
Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 day of show. Doors open at 4pm with fun and educational activities including a cocktail area with music by Jeff Fereshetian. Smoking Section will kick off the concert, followed by the Wailers at 7:30pm. Attendees providing proof of early voting will receive a free beer.
